GLORIOUS EXCESS [BORN] BY MIKE SHINODA
One of my favourite songwriters, the incredibly talented
Mike Shinoda from
LP and
Fort Minor, is about to open an exhibit of his paintings at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
Highly influenced by the vanitas genre (for the non versed in the matter
vanitas is a latin word that means emptiness and as style it reached its peak in the 16th century. It was a form of symbolic still-life painting that denounced the relativism of the human knowledge and the futility of vanity juxtaposed to the ephemeral existence in which all objects represented are symbols of fragility, time passing, the short nature of life and ultimately death) the exhibit will be called Glorious Excess and it "borns" on july 12th and will "die" on January 2009.

JONATHAN IVE'S LATEST DESIGN JOB YOU'LL HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE

* That's right the picture above is intended for this entry because CNN/Fortune are reporting that the designer behind Eve, the female robot/co-star in Pixar's upcoming blockbuster,
Wall·E, is no other than
Jonathan Ive. [I know!! I bet you just said OMG! as I did the first time I heard it] To be fair he was only part of the design process but it is one of this little facts that my geeky brain is always dying to know.
"Wall·E director Andrew Stanton said he wanted the design to be high-end, but also "seamless and for the technology to be sort of hidden and subcutaneous." Stanton called this philosophy straight out of the Apple playbook and called up El Jobso (Steve Jobs) in 2005. Steve sent over Johnny Ive for the day."
So there you have it another reason (like if we need another one!) to watch the movie when it premiers.
Now the eternal question remains,
if Eve is a mac that means that Wall·E is a pc?

R.E.M. - HOLLOW MAN
From their new album Accelerate
R.E.M.'s latest video for the song Hollow man directed by Canadian studio
Crush Inc. (Apollogies in advance for the
shitty bad quality of the youtube video, I couldn't find a better one.)
------------------------------------------------------------
I've been lost inside my head,
Echoes fall off me.
I took the prize last night for complicatedness
For saying things I didn't mean and don't believe.
Believe in me, believe in nothing
Corner me and make me something
I've become the hollow man,
Have I become the hollow man I see?
Mmmmmm I see...This echoing.
You have placed your trust in me.
I went upside-down.
I emptied out the room in thirty seconds flat,
I can't believe you held your ground.
Believe in me, believe in nothing
Corner me and make me something
I've become the hollow man,
Have I become the hollow man I see?
I'm overwhelmed, I'm on repeat,
I'm emptied out, I'm incomplete.
You trusted me, I want to show you
I don't want to be the hollow man.
